How Orthodontics Work

Misaligned teeth can be more than just an aesthetic issue, a bad bite can also cause a host of other oral health problems for children, teens or adults.

Orthodontic treatment with either traditional metal braces or Invisalign clear aligners may help you or your child to achieve a straighter and healthier smile.

Braces and clear aligners put precisely calibrated pressure on teeth to gently move them into the correct position, over a period of months or years.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces, made of either metal or ceramic, have been used for decades to effectively straighten teeth. In recent years, advances in orthodontic treatment have resulted in braces that are lower-profile, more comfortable and easier to care for than ever before.

How Braces Straighten Teeth

Braces use a system of brackets and wires to apply continuous pressure to the teeth over a period of time, slowly moving them into their new, corrected positions.

As pressure is applied and the teeth move, the bone changes shape to accommodate the new corrected positions of the teeth.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

With Invisalign treatment, your smile is gradually straightened using a series of individually customized, clear plastic aligners that are adjusted over a period of time.

Invisalign clear aligners are removable for when you'd prefer no one know that you are straightening your teeth. They are also convenient to use.

Similar in appearance to custom whitening trays, the aligners are easy to use. You can even remove them to eat, drink, brush and floss as you would normally!
